The Iyengar style of yoga is a complete system of development – in physical, mental & spiritual well being

Balwyn Yoga Centre is the longest running yoga school in Victoria practicing Iyengar style Yoga, which was established in 1968. The principal, Mrs Lang, was a student of Mr B.K.S. Iyengar in India, attending workshops for over 10 years and uses her knowledge and experience to train her team of qualified teachers in the correct methods and practices of Iyengar style Yoga. Each teacher has over 10 years experience as both a student and teacher and can help guide you in the development of your yoga skills.

The reputation of Balwyn Yoga Centre attracts students from all over Melbourne, but its central location makes it convenient to surrounding suburbs like Box Hill, Doncaster, Surrey Hills, Hawthorn, Kew and Camberwell. There is easy access by public transport along tram route 109 or ample parking around the centre during class times.

Balwyn Yoga Centre teaches physical or ‘Iyengar’ style Yoga. Most people need some physical improvement and yoga is an effective way to loosen stiff bodies and increase fitness and well being. However, Iyengar style Yoga is entirely non competitive and progress is determined by the individual, with each student receiving back depending on what they put into it.

It is not a religion and does not conflict with anyone’s personal beliefs, but offers a greater enjoyment of life, increased strength and flexibility.

The centre also offers a specialised beginner class teacher who is fluent in Chinese to teach correct poses and to help integrate students into the main classes when ready.

You will also learn exercises that teach you the correct way to breathe and relax. If practiced regularly and carefully, these exercises will help any person regardless of age to increase their vitality, overcome fatigue, adjust their weight, help control insomnia and keep old age at bay.
