In Focus: The new National Aged Care Design Principles & Guidelines - Design Principle 1 Enable the Person. Tonal Contrast: Residents with poor vision depend on tonal contrast and proper lighting for visibility. Enhance room clarity by using contrasting tones for key surfaces like walls, floor, doors and furniture. Instead of relying on specific colours, it's more effective to consider the right mix of tones or light reflectance value (LRV). Aim for a LRV contrast of at least 30% between surrounding surfaces. As a quick test, you can apply a monochrome filter over a picture of the subject to help view tonal transitions. #agedcare #designeducation

In Focus: Infection Control - Homely Healthcare Spaces In hospitals and healthcare facilities, maintaining a safe and sterile environment is paramount, whilst recognising the importance of fostering a warm and homely atmosphere for patients. Crown Furniture integrates style & comfort with hygiene safety by using a special timber coating across our range. Timber furniture typically can be a challenge in maintaining infection control standards due to its porous nature. But thankfully Crown Furniture has a solution to assist infection control process. As microbes encounter the treated timber, the unique combination of Zinc Pyrithione and Thiabendazole efficiently dismantles their cellular functions. This not only eradicates existing microorganisms but also means furniture with timber components can be used in healthcare spaces ensuring a warm and inviting ambiance, allowing patients and visitors to experience a more homely atmosphere.
