On the last day of our Bohemia and Christmas in the Tyrol tour, we visited the world renowned ski resort town of Kitzbühel. We started our morning with a horse and carriage ride around the outskirts of the town. Along the way, we saw frozen lakes, traditional wooden Alpine homes, and a few of the locals taking their dogs for long walks in the surrounding woods. Our carriage ride ended in the main street of the town, Vorderstadt. We decided to take the cable car up to the Hahnenkamm. The cable car cost 31.50 € which on a clear day like we had is worth the view. If the weather was overcast, it would not be worthwhile - unless you're skiing of course! The village is like a picture postcard with colourful houses lining the streets. There are many restaurants and bars to entertain you. I recommend finding a table where you can watch the many fabulous people in their designer lables walk by. After lunch we returned to Kirchberg. Even on Boxing Day, the village shops were open and it was a great chance to pick up the last of our souvenirs. Some of our intrepid travellers discovered that if you visit the "Skischule Kirchberg" you can hire a toboggan for 5 € and fulfil your desire for speed on a smaller slope! At dinner that night, the staff of Kirchberger Hof came to wish us farewell and to thank us. Their service was fantastic and a real stand out. Our tour ends the next day on arrival into Munich. It has been a fantastic tour and our Tour Manager Deryk and our driver Jerg have ensured that our tour ran smoothly. I hope you have enjoyed following me along on tour! The last time I was in Vienna was back in 2000. I had a vague recollection of it being a beautiful city, but not much else. So you can imagine my excitement when I realised our next 3 nights would be in Vienna. Our hotel was in an excellent location! Public transport outside the hotel was just a few minutes' walk, or you could easily walk into the Innere Stadt. The buildings are beautiful, ornate, and have a sense of scale that can be overwhelming to the senses. So beautiful. So what did we do during our stay? * We went to the Vienna Woods and visited the 900 year old Heiligenkreuz Monastery * Visited the State Apartments and ‘Hall of Mirrors’ in the magnificent Royal summer residence – Schönbrunn Palace * The walking tour of the city gave us a great overview of the main sites. * Yes, I added new Christmas mugs to my collection at the stunning markets here in the city! There were 12 you could visit! We also had a whole free day in Vienna. So if you are wondering what else to do: * I would recommend booking in advance a guided tour of the Spanish horses stables - it can be hard to get tickets on the day! * Organise to see a performance at the State Opera House. It normally starts at 8pm, so on a free night, take yourself there to soak in the atmosphere. * It is not everyone's cup of tea (or Viennese coffee!), but you are in Vienna- order tge Sacher Torte with whipped cream. * Stock up on Apricot liqueur and Mozart chocolates. Such a wonderful time in this fantastic city. It won't be 23 years before I return again! Wolfgang our local guide had the mammoth task of showcasing Prague Castle for our tour group. Did you know that according to the Guinness Book of World Records, Prague Castle is the largest coherent castle complex in the world, with an area of almost 70,000 m²... so much to see. We could not see everything so our tour concentrated on: * The old Royal Palace with Vladislav Hall * The Cathedral of St.Vitus * Golden Lane with its quaint boutiques. The doors were so short! We then took the stairs down from the castle and walked through the beautiful Mala Strana where we encountered a very long queue. So fascinating to see the impact of Tok Tok on travel. We walked past the line of people waiting to walk down the "narrowest alley in Prague". The travellers were waiting patiently for their turn. Then on to Charles Bridge. It was very busy indeed. I would recommend that during your 'My Time' to walk back to the bridge and take in the 30 statues featured. We then ended our walking tour, waiting for the Astrological Clock to chime. A fantastic day of history on this magical city. On our arrival to Prague, I was so excited to discover how centrally located our hotel is located. We were perfectly positioned between the shopping areas of 'Wenceslas Square' and the 'Old Town Square'. The famous Christmas Markets, with its stunning backdrop of churches, are found at the 'Old Town Square' and were even more beautiful than I imagined. Don't forget, Prague currency is the Czech koruna or Czech crown (Kč / CZK), not Euro! Change some money so you can indulge in Christmas Market delicacies, like: * Drink Medovina, deliciously warm honey liquor perfect these cold winter nights * Try Prague Ham, smoked over coals in the markets. * Trdelník, chimney cakes that can be filled with icecream! * Cheesecake - creamy smooth texture with a light citrus tang.
