What does it take to be an Orchestra leader? Queensland Symphony Orchestra supporters enjoyed a fascinating discussion at QSO’s ‘What’s My Job?’ event. Emily Granger (Principal Harp), Rainer Saville (Section Principal Trumpet) and David Montgomery (Section Principal Percussion) joined ABC Radio’s Loretta Ryan for an insight into the challenges and triumphs of the orchestral musician’s journey to the pinnacle of their profession. These events are developed for our curious partners and supporters. To find out more, please visit qso.com.au/support-us Photo: Loretta Ryan, Emily Granger, Rainer Saville and David Mongomery.

Thank you Adam Brunes and the team at Aruga for your hard work, words and articles. We're excited for Courtney Act's hosting debut with Queensland Symphony Orchestra this Saturday! For additional information, please visit qso.com.au/olivia 🛼
Representation is vital, so to have internationally-acclaimed Australian drag icon Courtney Act fronting Queensland Symphony Orchestra next week - the first drag performer to do so - is a significant moment in time. She is joined by stars of stage and screen including David Campbell and Christie Whelan-Browne in a very special tribute to the late, great Olivia Newton-John. Don’t miss it! A true wish list dinner party guest, QSO Chief Conductor Umberto Clerici delighted all attending with tales of his leadership journey. Late last week, Brisbane's Office Managing Partner, Steven Sorbello, hosted an intimate dinner for a group of our valued clients - 'A Night in Italy'. The evening saw plenty of great food, wine, conversation, and a special appearance from Queensland Symphony Orchestra’s Chief Conductor, Umberto Clerici. Umberto lit up the room with passion as he shared his experience with leading orchestras across the globe. BDO has a long-standing relationship with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, and we are grateful to Umberto for spending 'A Night in Italy' with us.

This week, Queensland Symphony Orchestra engaged in a traditional Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony. This ancient practice, which has been performed for tens of thousands of years, connects and protects the individuals of the land against negative spiritual forces and also extends as a formal welcoming to visitors. We are honoured that our friends Shannon, Tim and Jonno shared this practice with us and educated us on the cultural importance and significance of the ceremony to our First Nations Peoples. The depth and history shared in our workshop about how to present an honest and authentic Acknowledgement of Country is a gift to us all, and our audiences. Gratitude to the Turrbal and Yuggera peoples, the traditional landowners, for their continued custodianship of the lands where we work, rehearse, and perform in South Brisbane — a historic meeting place for visitors from both north and south of the Brisbane River.

On this International Women's Day, we wish to highlight Minister Leeanne Enoch's recent parliamentary recognition of the invaluable contributions made by women in Queensland's arts and cultural sector. It is crucial to honour the talented women who play a pivotal role in shaping the cultural identity of our state. The commitment to promoting women in leadership positions within the arts is exemplified by our Chief Executive, Yarmila Alfonzetti, here at Queensland Symphony Orchestra. The Queensland Arts Showcase Program, among other initiatives, has been instrumental in supporting over two-thirds of female creatives since 2022. Queensland demonstrate its commitment to promoting diversity by embracing this year's theme, Inspire Inclusion. We are fortunate to witness a remarkable 63% female representation on the boards of statutory bodies, which includes the presence of First Nations women and women serving as chairs. The ongoing investment in women artists and leaders serves to enrich our cultural landscape for future generations. Let us come together to celebrate and support the vibrant contributions of women creatives to Queensland's thriving arts and cultural scene. #Women #Arts #Culture Queensland Government
