Our Mission: deliver the most food to the most Australians in need in the most efficient and effective way.

About us

Foodbank is a food relief organisation that partners with the entire Australian food and grocery sector to supply front-line charities nationally with the stocks they need to address hunger in the community. This involves working with farmers, wholesalers, manufacturers and retailers to source fresh and manufactured foods as well as personal and household items for those in need. Donations include stock that doesn’t meet industry specifications, is close to expiry or excess to requirements. Companies also make donations as part of their corporate social responsibility commitments and cause-related marketing campaigns. Foodbank supplies food and groceries to more than 2,950 charities and also provides regular breakfasts for students in 2,890 schools across the country. As a not-for-profit organisation, Foodbank relies on governments, individuals, organisations, community groups and thousands of volunteers to fight hunger.

Every month, we help feed over a million people across the country. With such a high demand, we can't rely on donations alone. That's why we are grateful for our amazing fresh milk partners—Saputo Inc., Lactalis Australia, Bega Group, and Fonterra—who have committed to producing over 900,000 litres of fresh milk for us to distribute to communities in need. We're also thankful for The a2 Milk Company, who support us year-round and during disaster responses. Their dedication ensures we have a constant supply of fresh milk for communities in need, no matter the circumstance. However, the demand for fresh milk is still incredibly high, and we need new partners to join us in closing this gap. Please email supplychain@foodbank.org.au if you can help us. Together, we can ensure that every Australian has access to fresh milk. 🥛💜 #WorldMilkDay #FoodbankAustralia #EndHunger

Volunteers are essential to Foodbank. In 2023, approximately 210,000 hours of volunteer time, valued at around $4.9 million, were donated to tackle food insecurity. Without them, we simply cannot do what must be done to ensure Aussies get the food and grocery relief they need. To say thank you, Mars Food & Nutrition surprised over 70 Foodbank Victoria volunteers with a Dolmio Spaghetti Bolognese lunch. To all the selfless volunteers who pack hampers, sort donated food and groceries, serve children at Foodbank School Breakfast Programs, or assist the many people who visit the charities we provide food relief to, this week, like every week; we say a huge thank you! What's the Foodbank Stone Fruit Program? It's a collaborative effort between Montague, CHEP, and Minus 1, delivering Montague stone fruit from Narre Warren, Victoria, to Foodbanks across Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland. Thanks to CHEP's reusable produce bulk bins and Minus 1's refrigerated trucks, this initiative operates throughout the stone fruit season, from January to April. The program has successfully distributed over 65,000 kilograms of fresh produce this year alone. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our generous partners, Montague, CHEP, and Minus 1, for their invaluable fruit and service contributions to Foodbank. This enables us to reach even more Australians in need with nourishing fruit. #endhunger CHEP, MINUS 1 REFRIGERATED TRANSPORT PTY. It was great visiting the Primary Connect team at their distribution centre in Wyong for the annual Foodbank and Primary Connect Distribution Centre of the Year awards. Congratulations to Dan Haney, the Supply Chain Manager of the Wyong DC, for winning this year's trophy. By increasing donations to Foodbank by 23%, the Wyong DC has played an important role in Primary Connect’s significant contribution to Foodbank. This increase has directly translated into more food reaching people in need, making a tangible difference in our community. Over 200 Primary Connect staff attended the annual awards and Michael Davidson from Foodbank Australia and Samantha Prescott from Foodbank NSW/ACT presented the trophy to Dan Haney. #EndHunger

Did you know when times get tough, meat is often one of the first things people cut from their shopping lists, making it one of the most sought-after food items? This week, we have been at Beef Week to raise awareness of this issue and connect with potential partners to help us 'meat' the demand. One of the many highlights has been the visits from school groups and being able to shine a light on our mission of creating a hunger-free Australia. It's been great connecting with everyone this week; thank you to everyone who has stopped by to say hello! Volunteers are the beating heart of Foodbank. That's why we are proud to be an official supporter of the National Strategy for Volunteering. We recognise that we all have a part to play in ensuring that volunteering has a bright future in Australia. What's the National Strategy for Volunteering? It's a ten-year roadmap for how we can collectively make volunteering the heart of Australian Communities, and we are committed to making it happen. As we reach for that carton of milk to enrich our tea or spread butter on our toast, there's a simple dignity formed in these gestures. We have all had those moments when we forgot to restock our fridge, so we have had to do without. But imagine, for a moment, you couldn't duck to the shops and buy those items because your budget won't allow it. At Foodbank, we understand the profound impact of having a constant supply of these essential items. That's why we are grateful to have our long-standing partner, Saputo Dairy Australia, by our side. They donate a range of dairy products, including a reliable supply of fresh white milk, every week to help the communities we support. In 2023 alone, Saputo donated 594,100 meals plus 250,000 litres of fresh white milk towards the national milk program. We are grateful to Saputo Inc. for extending their commitment to our milk program for the next two years! #ThankYou #TeamWork #EndHunger #TogetherWeBringGoodToTheTable

We can't wait to 'meat' you at Beef Week from May 5th to 11th. Beef Week, which runs once every three years in Rockhampton, is a fantastic opportunity for us to continue educating and raising awareness about how we can work with partners to ensure that households in need have access to much-needed protein. Meat is one of the first things to come off the shopping list when things get tough. It is one of our most in-demand food items, so we're looking forward to talking to people within the beef industry during this event. We hope to find partners who can donate livestock and manufacturers to help us produce key protein staples such as sausages and mince. We love engaging face-to-face, so please come and chat with us at stall M38, McKenzie Pavilion. #EndHunger #BeefWeek2024

As Australia's largest food and emergency relief providers, we are uniting to urge the government to listen to the advice of its own experts and increase working-age payments permanently. The Economic Inclusion Advisory Committee's recent report highlights the urgent need to increase JobSeeker and other working-age payments. Failing to take action will only perpetuate a cycle of poverty, which could leave countless Australians on the brink of homelessness. Brianna Casey, CEO of Foodbank Australia said: "We know that 3.7 million households struggled to put food on the table in the last 12 months. We are seeing an increasing number of households with two adults in full time employment needing food relief, the fact that we're seeing people in full time employment needing food relief gives an insight into just how difficult it is for those on the lowest incomes. Urgent action is needed from the Federal Government to increase the rate of these payments in the upcoming budget."
