The summary report below from AiG is worth reading. It points to a slowing of the economy, particularly in food and beverage, and construction – two markets that many of our clients are directly exposed to. Many of our other clients are indirectly exposed – think schools, councils and others.    It is likely this trend will continue in the new year. In any normal year, construction industry collapses often peak around February / March, but in 2024, we may be faced with a higher than usual rate of collapse. Food and beverage is likely to get a boost over Christmas and New Year, but may pull back sharply after that period, leading to a higher rate of collapse in that sector.    Not good news generally, but this is what I think the early part of 2024 will look like. The RBA held rates yesterday, but if spending continues to grow, we should expect a further rate rise in February.     Our message to AMPAC clients is to get overdue debt to us quickly to reduce the likelihood of it going bad.
