Intensive care patients at Canberra Hospital will be cared for in a new Intensive Care Unit from late August this year. 🏥 The ICU will be located in the new Critical Services Building with bed capacity increasing to 48, including four specially designed paediatric spaces. The new ICU is a modern and fit-for-purpose space that will enable the highly skilled teams to implement excellent care. Features of the ICU include: • four paediatric beds with an adjoining family zone to give families who have children in the ICU a support area • a multi-purpose therapy space to accelerate patient care with early integrated rehabilitation • a pod of 12 beds that can be isolated in the event of an infectious disease threat • dedicated outdoor spaces that can medically support patients to spend time outside as part of their recovery • ability to expand ICU to 60 beds as demand grows in the future.
