Good Work Design. Talks about cognitive characteristics of a task. A workers ability to function and perform a task effectively and efficiently in a specific job role, while maintaining safety and awareness. One solution that is often mentioned is training. Give the worker more information and skills to perform the role. Sounds great. So why do you force your workers to learn something in a set period of time? Why don't you allow them to learn at their own pace? Why are you putting workers under pressure to learn and retain information about something that is potentially going to kill them such as high-risk tasks in a day, when it could take weeks or even months to learn and then are surprised when they can't do what they "have been trained to do" and create "work arounds"? Good work design and good learning development go hand in hand.
