What are the basic requirements for an ETA?

01/26/2017

What are the basic requirements in applying for an ETA?Among many reasons, the Australian government introduced the Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) to make it simpler for select countries to enter the country.
It isn't really hard to obtain an ETA, nor does it require a lot of additional documents in order to apply but you must satisfy specific conditions.
Since the application can be completed purely online, iIt is advised that you have a stable internet connection and an email address before you get started.
Ensure you have a valid passport from a visa-exempt country (Brunei-Darussalam, Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, and the United States).
You must also meet the health requirements and not have any criminal convictions.
The government may request for additional documents if they deem your application questionable, or if they think they need to know more about your travel details. Such scenarios could make the ETA processing time longer than the usual 5-14 days.
