Tesla recently
announced that their Model X car is coming to Australia next year. The CEO of

According to The Telegraph’s article titled “Solar-powered
car coming to Australia next year”, Tesla is unrolling the solar powered
Model X car in Australia next year. This sparked a commentary from Finance

The car will be rechargeable at a number of charging
stations between Sydney and Melbourne. Charging time at one of these “super-chargers”
is 30 minutes versus the usual eight hours for solar powered cars.
“The reduced charging time made possible by these super
chargers should help strengthen the car’s appeal. Admittedly, it’s still a lot
longer than the few minutes it takes to gas up, but considering the fact that
it’s free to use the chargers and you are helping the environment, it’s not a
bad deal,” said Milankovic.
The Model X car has enough driving range to cover a drive
from Sydney to Canberra.
Tesla plans to cover the distance between Sydney and Melbourne
with two super chargers, and the distance between Sydney and Brisbane with two
super chargers. More chargers could be on the way for other Australian cities.
“This is exciting news for early adopters who want a piece
of the glamour associated with a cutting edge car. The hefty price tag can be
somewhat justified by the fact that ‘fueling up’ is free. But I think that the
kind of consumer that would buy a Tesla car isn’t primarily motivated by gas
savings…it’s mostly the ‘influencer’ crowd,” said Milankovic.
