About Earworx

Established January 2016

Originally established in Tasmania in 2016, Earworx has since expanded across Australia and has now opened a clinic in Belconnen in North Canberra. Operating in partnership with North Canberra Family Practice, Earworx is perfect for all your professional ear wax removal needs.

Our founder, Lisa Hellwege, noticed that there was a gap in medical services sphere for a safe and effective technique to remove impacted earwax that was also dry and thus suitable for people with perforated eardrums, diabetics or people who have undergone ear surgery. Lisa, who has a passion for relieving patients of annoying and uncomfortable blocked ears, set up Earworx to fill this gap, using micro-suction and curettage techniques to treat her patients.

Micro-suction and curettage are dry techniques which provide the most effective and safest means of ear wax removal. Furthermore, they are the techniques endorsed by Ears Nose and Throat specialists. The micro-suction process involves a very small micro-suction catheter which is attached to suction tubing being directly inserted into the ear canal. The machine will then gently suck out excess earwax. Throughout the whole process, a registered nurse will be observing the ear canal and eardrum with loupes to ensure safety.

At our North Canberra clinic, the registered nurse who will perform the procedure and help to make you feel comfortable is Mary-Anne Crafter. Mary-Anne, who holds a Bachelor of Nursing and a Masters in Audiology, has extensive experience in the nursing home sector. Additionally, she has undertaken the nationally accredited Earworx Aural Care Program and underwent extensive practical placement in micro-suction at Earworx’s Hobart-based clinic.

As someone who strives to see her patients benefit from her professionalism, kindness and generosity, anyone who visits Mary-Anne can be assured they are in confident and capable hands. Furthermore, Mary-Anne’s experience in the nursing home sector is particularly relevant to her work at Earworx due to the fact that many people start producing excess ear wax as they get older. Hearing aids are also another common cause of wax impaction due to their blocking of the ears’ natural self-cleaning process.

Blocked ears can be uncomfortable and, for some people, even debilitating with symptoms including itchiness, hearing loss, tinnitus, earache, dizziness, odour and discharge. To relieve yourself of these symptoms, book an appointment at Earworx.
