Meet our Legal Operations Manager – Stephen Motley! 👋 After working in the construction industry for 47 years, Steve hung up his boots and began a new journey at Prosper Law - Australia’s Online Law Firm in January this year. Steve previously ran his own business with varying degrees of size and staff members over the years, and has valuable insight into how to run a business and the relevant legal requirements to do so. Steve had to dive into a completely new workplace environment, with different vocabulary, processes and computer systems. Steve says: “Whilst I had sufficient knowledge of computing for invoicing and quoting for my business, my computer skills were limited to say the least." and "Prosper Law put me through various computer courses and with a lot of patience and time from Farrah M., I have managed to get to a position where I can be more effective in my new role as Legal Operations Manager, which is just a fancy word for secretary.” Plus, Steve was surprised to see new communication etiquette on the computer: “I found I had to use emojis to express the manner in which I meant what I was saying, on a construction site this was simply the tone of voice and the words you chose to use (plus how many fingers you had up in the air)”. We do like our emojis! 😅 A bonus for Steve was that after being self-employed for most of his life, he was entitled to all the benefits working for another company. Steve says: “I've never been entitled to holiday pay, sick pay, or even maternity leave. I'm not saying I will use it, but it’s there if I needed it, and who knows with today’s world, maybe I will.” Steve enjoys not having to get up at 4:00 AM in the morning, driving 1,200kms a week or dealing with suppliers and tradesmen himself. Now, when Steve does wake up at 4:00 AM, it’s to go fishing or to the gym, and back by 8:30 AM to start work from the comfort of his own home. Steve says: “It's been a transition of immense proportion”. Prosper Law is proud to have Steve as part of the team. His unique perspective, honed from years in the construction industry, adds tremendous value to our team dynamic and collaboration, and we're excited about the continued contributions he'll make to our team. #TeamMemberSpotlight #CareerChange #RemoteLawFirm #LegalServices #LegalTeam #LegalAdvice #Business #Law
