  • Another business owner ready to thrive in 2024. I just completed a digital marketing project for a wedding florist in Sydney that has generated their first 'cold' leads in years. They have a successful business that has been fuelled via referrals but they wanted to grow and have bookings planned out months in advance. Like many business owners, they relied on a friend to build their website so it lacked some of the essential ingredients needed to get discovered or convince people. So after doing a marketing situation analysis with the couple, the agreed strategy was to build a new site that would include; - essential SEO development - clearer service positioning - revised visuals & written content - a responsive design focussed on mobile phone users - a structure that would enable them to add to the site to show off the work completed for their clients in a very visual, engaging way They were nervous about the project & spending a lot of money, but within 45 days new form leads have come through as well as record visitor volumes to their contact page. Google Organic Search also became the largest traffic generator to the site which compliments existing Social Media and Direct traffic very nicely. While this wasn't an intensive project with loads of new content creation, they have a platform that can be built on. With the average wedding flower job worth between $5,000 & $10,000 it has created a funnel with prospects worth more than $55,000 if converted to booked jobs. A solid achievement in a short period of time. Although, this is just scratching the surface because the niche is super competitive with a mix of florists, designers, event planners and venues all competing for this portion of the wedding trade. So to truly carve out a space in this niche would require more content about colours, flowers, styles, arrangements, venues and more to create a informative, educational site that helps brides. Want to find out how the principles behind this project can help you as well? • I shake my head when I see business owners get excited about fake bullsh@t marketing tactics... what do I mean? This week I lost a client because they didn't think I could match what an agency was offering, which included these items on a proposal; - Signal Boost Submit Link URLs to Indexers - 2x Brand Authority Links  - Signal Boost Social Power-Up Links  - Citation Power-Up Links Maybe I f@cked it up and didn't showcase my value well enough, but sadly they fell for these four lines of utter marketing garbage (and other items) that don't mean anything and are just buzz words. The agency scraped Google My Business profiles to do cold calling for those outside the top 3 on the map pack. They would have hit all the local business owners in the area so no doubt will be helping other competitors in the area too. They will be using a $70 a month app to improve the citations, send out automated review requests to customers and change a few headings on their website - that's it. Meanwhile, the list of strategic business goals the owner defined don't actually align with what the agency is proposing to provide. In fact many of them won't even be addressed at all. So no doubt that will be add ons and extras to be paid. What's worse, they pointed out to the client their website failed Google's PageSpeed Test then cleverly avoided helping to fix it as their rationale was it wasn't possible (even though speed optimisation is possible on nearly any site). Meanwhile, they are about to walk away with a $900 a month retainer for 3 months & most likely tell the owner they have to keep paying to 'maintain' that work or their competitors will beat them. On the other hand one of my clients is very happy as they now get a few leads coming through from a new website design project that started in July. He had used different contractors, agencies and marketing gurus before but none of them could generate any results. We started again and within 78 days he is seeing some initial results as we build a long term strategy & digital presence for his business. #marketing #smallbusinessmarketing #digitalmarketing #websitedesign

  • Do you get found for your business name or the services / problems you solve? This signage business seems happy as they are getting found for the things they do (and not just their name) My client wanted to grow their sales, get found by more people locally. We are 90 days into the project with their local business beating national brands & established companies in the area. Is there some hack or secret to achieving this? No. As a marketing consultant this is what I have done so far; - Held a planning session to understand their revenue/profit priorities by service category - Review previous website performance & what they were/weren't getting found for - Competitor research to see what or how they were getting found online - Keyword research to understand some of the volume or niche phrases to focus on - Update their existing website with a completely new look and feel that is modern, fresh and very visual (they are a signage company after all) with deeper information and content about their service deliverables - Focussed new content creation around the priority service areas they identified - Created a process to share job examples and stories to showcase their work. - Create new content pages that help any business owner step by step what is needed or possible for creating different signage types or solving different needs with signage while showcasing different examples my client has already produced Yes the double listing on that specific search is a bonus and probably won't stay there, but hey take your wins when you can right? It is only early days yet but the early indicators are positive and it demonstrates that there you don't need hacks or shortcuts, any business can be discovered by more people online by getting the fundamentals right. #marketing #smallbusinessmarketing #marketingtips #marketingideas #seo #marketingconsultant #digitalmarketing

  • I got called a 'prick' the other day by a business owner. After a 1 hour consultation where I ran through what needed to be done to grow his business... meanwhile one of my other clients can't believe the change they are seeing. Within 60 days we have managed to get their brand new website recognised for more than 1,200 new search phrases, relevant ones. Believe it or not, their business was set up to get traffic for a service that made up less than 5% of their revenue instead of the growth areas or profitable areas of their business. Meanwhile, the rest of my digital marketing work has focussed on getting rid of all the fake backlink traffic that was going to the site. Yes it was set up to make it look like the website had 000's of visitors, but it didn't. Every top-line metric looks like a disaster, but the devil is in the detail. Real, local, Australian visitors are engaging with the website very nicely. It is converting to more leads & and phone calls. Meanwhile, the site is getting 'understood' for the right things they want to focus on in their business. Now the next step is to build more content and information to help people and show off their work to build a more solid website that relies on quality information rather than dodgy digital marketing tactics that 'trick' owners into thinking everything is working well. And yes if you are wondering, the owner gets to see all this data warts and all so they understand the process, the outcomes & where or how efforts are generating sensible commercial outcomes. #digitalmarketing #marketingconsultant #marketingcoach #seo #smallbusinessmarketing

  • "Paul how do I know that using you as a marketing consultant can work?" --- I was asked this today and it is a valid question, but here's an example of demonstrable proof that if you can get all the elements right in your mix of marketing execution then you can grow your business. This client has seen a 5X increase in organic traffic year on year due to the SEO development I have done and it is generating a regular flow of leads with nearly 100 this month alone. Even if I didn't know or see any of these leads, a customer has written a great review about a renovation job that was worth more than $25,000 which is one of the case studies about to go on the website soon. That case study is 1 of more than 50 we have done already which is over $1,000,000 in sales revenue from jobs completed which has been created by the owner investing in their business; - brand new website - search engine optimisation - content creation via blog posts & job examples - Google My Business posts - regular social media posts - complimentary Google Search Ads - review generation strategy Together, and only together, can all of these things work to then create website traffic & most importantly, convince people to put an enquiry in. If you don't get that balance right you will not succeed, its that simple and also means you can't cut corners because there is too much competition in every niche, every sector and every industry. #digitalmarketing #marketingconsultant #sydney #marketingconsultantsydney #seo #smallbusinessmarketing #marketingadvice

  • New digital marketing work - website design and content creation for a local car dealership to launch their new vehicle. Using a combination of corporate assets, press release information, keyword research topics I built a new landing page that is SEO optimised & will have them appearing on first page searches within a few days. Behind the page set up is Google Analytics tracking on both Universal Analytics & the new Analytics 4 to measure engagement & conversions going to the enquiry forms set up via their CRM to manage expressions of interest. This was complimented with a very simple text-based eDM out to their database pushing visitors directly to the page. Fast, simple, direct & effective. Initial results were extremely positive with 1,000+ visits with many spending 4+ min average viewing times & leads flowing within a few hours. #digitalmarketing #marketingconsultant #websitemarketing #seo #websitedesign

  • I just built a website for free - why? This year I wanted to pick up some projects that had a 'purpose' and Darcy Street is a social enterprise that puts a portion of its profits back into helping people in the community. They train people to become a barista to get life skills, confidence & the ability to get a new job in the hospitality space. When I sat with John and heard about all the work he was doing I felt like the world needed to see and hear it. So we are in the middle of rebuilding his existing website to showcase the work he does, the people he helps and the different ways that small, medium, large or corporate businesses can get involved with the cafe. He has trained thousands of men, women and children over the years and is passionate about not only coffee, but helping people. Best of all one of the cafes is located in a park so its like sitting in a tree house for some fresh air, great food and coffee. This website design uses his corporate branding identity with a mix of content creation, revised copywriting and SEO development to help his brand get found online. #websitedesign #marketing #marketingcoach #marketingconsultant #digitalmarketing #socialenterprise

  • New website design project for a graphic design & printing business. Kylie & her husband left the corporate life many years ago & run a great little business in Cardiff. They want to grow & expand their business so this marketing consulting project was kicked off a couple of months ago and I have been helping to; - rebuild their existing website - create a fresh, modern look for the brand - showcase the vast amount of work they have done for local businesses - create new content and information on their website to get found locally via organic search so they don't have to rely on paid advertising - showcase some of the unique things they offer which includes not only graphic design but end to end removal/installation of signage. Kylie had been using various marketing contractors in the past but didn't feel like there was enough transparency & the volume of leads/enquiries weren't growing even though money was being invested. A lot of the website design and marketing consultation I have provided has really focussed on trying to improve the key messages being shown, showing off the depth of the work they deliver and building a website that is really vibrant, easy to navigate and has loads of signage examples for inspiration for other business owners in the are. They have a great referral base of existing clients so the marketing brief is to attract new potential customers to their brand and beat local competitors. The focus will be achieving this with SEO development so they lift their visibility locally to get found by businesses in the area. #digitalmarketing #marketingconsultant #seo #smallbusinessmarketing #marketingcoaching

  • New website design project just launched & the first international site. The owner of this private rental car business had used numerous digital marketing people over the years but wasn't getting any leads. I provided a marketing consultation session to help highlight a lot of the gaps & opportunities; - The original website didn't get very much organic traffic from Google - The presentation of the old website felt very generic & there wasn't a strong brand story or good credibility factors presented - A lot of the information on different pages was repetitive & didn't align with specific locations or services - The site took about 20 seconds to load for each visit & therefore had high drop off rates - The Google My Business profile wasn't optimised for local search - There were no online citations set up for the business - Images were not optimised for SEO to cater to specific service niches The first phase of this new project is to try and correct some of the gaps in marketing execution and improve the organic search performance of the site. The challenge will be the very generic, very competitive space that service plays in which is airport transfers with multiple competitors in play who have been in operation for many, many years. The first positive sign has been the year on year comparison to organic search results. This will fluctuate over the coming weeks as the site is indexed and compared to others and will then require ongoing development to beat the competition. #digitalmarketingconsultant #marketingconsultant #smallbusinessmarketing #marketingcoaching
