About
I aid businesses and industries in comprehending and incorporating disability inclusion into their practices and content. My intimate understanding of the challenges that lie within this path fuels my dedication.
Motivated by a fierce aspiration to revolutionize disability representation in popular culture, I integrate my professional expertise in advertising, marketing, media, branding, and communications with my lived experiences of disability.
Being an impassioned advocate for change, my focus is always on finding practical solutions. To this end, I have partnered with leading organizations, both nationally and internationally, and like-minded individuals, within the disability community, to effect tangible change.
My mission to challenge stereotypes, shift societal attitudes, and reshape the narrative surrounding disability is the driving force behind my commitment to motivate, educate, provoke thought, and engender palpable change in disability portrayal in mainstream culture.
As part of Media Diversity Australia, I also collaborate with journalists and communication professionals to ensure that the media is a true reflection of the diverse community it represents. My work has been featured both nationally and internationally, with publications such as The Sydney Morning Herald, FOX, Vogue, CBS, and Huff Post among my contributions.
Given my strong business acumen, I understand that embracing inclusion and diversity is not only ethically right but also yields substantial financial and economic benefits – a concept I expanded on in my TEDx talk.
I invite all change-makers to join me in my endeavour to ensure that the content created across various media more accurately mirrors the audience it serves. I'm represented by Saxton Speakers Bureau and to send all enquiries there: https://www.saxton.com.au/speakers/lisa-cox

‘My legs don’t work but my credit card does’: The huge demo marketers are ignoring
Mumbrella
Lisa Cox was a few years into her advertising career when in 2005 she collapsed at Melbourne Airport having suffered a massive brain haemorrhage.
After multiple surgeries, extensive rehabilitation and months in and out of hospital, Cox got back to work – but with a very different focus.
“I knew I couldn’t change my disability, but I could help to change the industry that was such a big part of telling me that my life was now worthless.” -
Why disability inclusion costs MUCH less than you think
Kochie's Business Builders
One thing you will notice when discussing the inclusion of people with disabilities in the workforce is that business leaders always think it will cost more money to be inclusive than it actually does. In fact, in most cases, changes in the workplace are so minor that they might as well be free, writes disability advocate Lisa Cox.

Viewing life from both sides of the wheelchair
Sydney Morning Herald
The senior journalist scanned me with scepticism and momentarily dropped her professional poker-face.
With raised eyebrows and poorly concealed disbelief, she ushered me into the studio for filming.
But my excitement was dulled somewhat by the fact that the studio in which we were filming had no wheelchair accessible toilet.

But my excitement was dulled somewhat by the fact that the studio in which we were filming had no wheelchair accessible toilet.
While I'm used to such inconveniences, upon reflection of this seemingly trivial matter, I later realised that this was a glaring metaphor for how the greater Australian media industry consider the wider disability community.
